What Is A Section Of A Stairway On A Set Of Building Plans - Home Design And Architecture Examples

A section of a stairway on a set of building plans is a representation of the stairway as if it were cut in half. This section is typically used to provide the builder with more information about how the building components can be assembled.

The section will usually be represented on a floor plan or another part of the building plans with a straight line representing exactly where it would be cut in half. This line will also have some type of symbol and a page number in this area representing where the section can be found. For example, the video shows a section pointing towards the right side of the building plan with the label  "S7 - #3". The arrow represents the direction of the section view, which is usually pointing to the left or right direction.

The section provides the builder with more information about how the building components can be assembled. For example, you might have a section of how the top of the stair stringers are going to connect to either a ledger or a landing or even a upper floor. It's not uncommon to have more than one section on a set of building plans.

What are the different types of sections?

There are two main types of sections: vertical sections and horizontal sections.

Vertical sections are used to show the height and width of a stairway. They are typically drawn from the side of the stairway, so that the viewer is looking at the stairway from the front.

Horizontal sections are used to show the length and depth of a stairway. They are typically drawn from the top of the stairway, so that the viewer is looking down on the stairway.

How do sections help builders understand the stairway?

Sections can help builders understand the stairway in a number of ways. They can show the overall size and shape of the stairway, as well as the relationship between the different components of the stairway. They can also help builders to visualize how the stairway will look when it is finished.

What else should I look for on a set of building plans?

In addition to the sections, there are a number of other things that you should look for on a set of building plans. These include:

The floor plan: This shows the layout of the building, including the location of the stairway.

The elevations: These show the front, side, and rear views of the building.

The details: These show close-ups of specific parts of the building, such as the stairs, doors, and windows.

The notes: These provide additional information about the building, such as the materials to be used and the construction methods.

By taking the time to understand the different parts of a set of building plans, you can get a better understanding of the overall design of the building. This can help you to make informed decisions about your project and to ensure that the building is built to your specifications.
