This video provides a tutorial on how to frame an arch under a straight staircase.
The first step involves removing any wall that might obstruct the space. Next, a large sheet of plywood is laid down on the floor to serve as a template. If a single large sheet isn't available, multiple smaller pieces can be used to create the template.
The measurements for the arc are marked on the plywood. It's noted that the arc might need slight adjustments to ensure the triangle formed later is straight.
The template is then positioned on the floor, aligning it with the earlier measurements. Since a single large piece of plywood might not be available for the frame, scrap lumber is used instead.
The process of creating a frame out of 2x4s is demonstrated, with a recommendation to space them about ten inches apart.
Once the frame is built, it's advised to attach braces to it for added stability. The braces can be attached to the stringer and the concrete floor, as well as at the top of the frame using blocks of wood.
Finally, the frame is covered with drywall to illustrate the potential finished look. It's acknowledged that this design isn't common in track homes due to the increased cost.
