Waste Pipe Repair Tips - Temporary Home Repairs Advice

A leaky or damaged sink arm under your kitchen sink can be a real nuisance. While a permanent fix is always recommended, sometimes you need a temporary solution to stop the drip and give you time to schedule a proper repair. Here are a few DIY ideas to temporarily patch up that troublesome sink arm:

1.  Epoxy Putty

This two-part putty is readily available at hardware stores.
Clean and dry the damaged area thoroughly.
Mix the putty according to the instructions and apply it liberally over the hole or crack.
Allow it to cure completely before using the sink.
Pros: Strong and durable, can fill gaps and cracks effectively.
Cons: Can be messy to work with, may require some sanding to smooth out after curing.

2.  Silicone Tape

This self-fusing tape creates a watertight seal when wrapped around the pipe.
Clean and dry the damaged area.
Wrap the tape tightly around the pipe, overlapping each layer by half.
Stretch the tape as you wrap to activate its self-fusing properties.
Pros: Easy to use, creates a strong seal, readily available.
Cons: May not be suitable for large holes or heavily damaged areas.

3.  Rubber Repair Clamp

This clamp is designed to seal leaks in pipes.
Place the rubber gasket over the damaged area.
Position the clamp over the gasket and tighten the screws.
Pros: Quick and easy to install, effective for small leaks and cracks.
Cons: Might not be suitable for larger holes or severely damaged pipes.

4.  Fiberglass Repair Wrap

This wrap is made of fiberglass cloth impregnated with resin.
Clean and dry the damaged area.
Cut a piece of wrap large enough to cover the damage.
Apply the wrap to the pipe and smooth it out.
Allow the resin to cure completely.
Pros: Strong and durable, can be used to repair larger areas of damage.
Cons: Can be messy to work with, requires some skill to apply evenly.
